Description

2 bedroom, 2 1/2 bathroom- sleeps 6, pool, near beach and Old Bay St. Louis

La Petite Cachette is a completely restored "barge board" private home listed on The National Register of Historical Places.

The Main House features a creole porch with four handmade Mississippi rocking chairs. This is a great place for morning coffee or afternoon libations with friends and family. This is the spot to take in a good book or just to enjoy the peace and privacy of La Petite Cachette.

The living room is a very cozy space for relaxing and watching TV. It has a large sofa, comfortable chairs, and a flat screen tv with a DVR. The living room opens to a spacious dining room. The dining room table has seating for eight people and is decorated with the works of Mississippi artists. The chandelier is a family heirloom. The impressive pocket doors are restored and underscore the historical nature of this property.

The kitchen has been renovated and is fully equipped with two sets of dishes for eight, two sets of stainless flatware for eight, a large variety of cooking utensils, various pots and pans for cooking, oven bakeware of various sizes, and barware. There are two refrigerators: one vintage restored Philco refrigerator and a modern one with an icemaker located on the screen porch. Appliances include a gas stove, a dishwasher, and a microwave. Small appliances include a coffeemaker, a toaster, a crockpot, and a blender.

The screen porch is accessed off of the kitchen and allows for outdoor dining. The porch also overlooks the pool and patio area.  There is a Weber charcoal grill for outdoor cooking needs.

The guest bedroom is well appointed with a queen size poster bed, a chest of drawers, night stands, bedside lamps, and generous closet space. The guest bedroom has two large windows and custom French doors which open on to the front porch. The bathroom is an en suite with a shower/tub combination. The bathroom is handicap accessible.

The master bedroom entrance is off of the dining room through handmade French doors. There is an heirloom French bedroom suite with a queen bed and two large dressers. Also, in the bedroom is a built-in work station with a flat screen TV. The bedroom has two large windows that allow natural light in the room. There is an en suite bathroom with a vanity and dressing area with built-in barge board cabinets. The bathroom has two pedestal sinks and a six foot soaking bathtub/shower combination.

The sunroom is located at the rear of the house. This is a beautiful sunlit room with barge board shelves and cabinets made from reclaimed wood from the New Orleans area. There is a vintage English breakfast table with balloon chairs. This is another great place for morning coffee. The windows and doors have custom made curtains to allow for privacy. The sunroom has a half bath and can be used as a third sleeping space. The couch is a queen size sleeper sofa.

The laundry room has a washer, a dryer, and rods for hanging clothes. The laundry room is located in the back portion of the house and can be accessed from the sunroom.

The pool is private and is located in the backyard area of the property. There are bicycles located under the carport for guests to use during their stay.

*Please note this is the 'Main House' and there is also another accommodation in the upstairs - 'Guest Quarters' listed separately

Family visit

Beautiful location, close enough to walk to the beach and downtown but still in a quiet neighborhood for our 3 week vacation out of the cold of Maine. Well stocked kitchen with plenty of great cookbooks and staples like spices, sugar, tea etc. Due to covid we did a lot of cooking in the charming kitchen but did frequent the many good restaurants downtown that followed safety guidelines. The cottage was spotless and well decorated with comfortable furniture and amazing art pieces. Front porch, side screened in porch and pool were all welcome retreats. The owners were very attentive, making sure we made it in okay and seeing if we needed anything. Hope to stay here again next winter.

Charming and well appointed

We rented the Cottage and the Guest Quarters for a long weekend. This is our second stay and we will be back! Loved being able to bring our dog! We were able to comfortably sleep 7 adults and 1 child. Both quarters were well appointed for all needs and the owners are so attentive and easy to work with. The pool is beautiful and it was so nice to have our own private pool during this time of Covid. Be sure an take advantage of the 6 beach bikes and the lovely beach bike path.

Charming, comfortable and beautiful home!

Just got home from a WONDERFUL trip to Bay St. Louis. It was our first time there and we absolutely LOVED Creole Cottage and the entire community! The home is SO comfortable and full of southern charm, well decorated, beautiful furnishings, comfortable beds and just so well cared for and stocked for guests (appliances, cooking needs, etc). We felt right at home. Loved the front porch with rocking chairs for morning coffee, the screened porch for outdoor lunches/dinners and the pool was a lifesaver in the heat...it kept our 9, 12 and 13 year old kids (and the adults!) entertained and comfortable the entire time! Then, when we needed to escape the heat, we were able to relax comfortably in the cool, air conditioned home. Overall, I cannot say enough about Creole Cottage and Mary Ellen, for her diligence in tending to our needs. She was very helpful, responsive and flexible. HIGHLY recommend Creole Cottage!

Filled with Warmth and Character, it's the Best Vacation Property in the Area

I strongly believe that the Creole Cottage is THE BEST rental for a couple or small family in the Bay Saint Louis area. My family and I have stayed at the Creole Cottage 3 times and have had a wonderful experience each time. Though we have stayed at two other rentals as well during other visits, this property is clearly the best. The cottage feels like you are staying in someone's home, who has lovingly cared for the property for many years. We love the great books, the high ceilings, and some of the old-fashioned details.
